Tulasi Growing Methods: Organic vs Inorganic

Many people do not know why organic growing methods are superior to conventional methods. The most significant reason is that organic methods build a healthy and natural soil ecosystem to allow plants to grow without problems. Having a healthy soil ecosystem allows the plant to fight off disease and bugs naturally, as well as thrive to its best potential. In other words, having a healthy soil ecosystem makes growing plants easier and better. Using organic growing methods makes growing Tulasi much easier.

There is a very popular saying that one should not feed the plant, but one should feed the soil. One may then question, isn’t soil lifeless? No, soil is actually an entire ecosystem of bacteria, fungi and other beneficial organisms that help plants absorb nutrients.

To feed the soil means to feed those organisms that feed the plant. If one uses inorganic fertilisers containing pesticides and other toxic chemicals, the life in the soil will die. Resulting in “dead soil” and an unhealthy plant.

The Two Steps To Organic Growing:

Step One:
Get organic soil with beneficial fungi and bacteria. Check out our article on soil for details on which soil to get.

Step Two:
Get an organic fertilizer bundle or make a cow dung tea fertilizer to feed those fungi and bacteria over time. Check out our article on nutrients to see what fertilizer to get or how to make your own cow dung tea (it’s super simple).

Following these steps to establish and maintain a healthy soil ecosystem will result in a plant with much more energy, very lush and green leaves, strong aromas from leaves and flowers, as well as strong disease and pest resistance. The difference is astonishing, using organic methods doesn’t take much more work than using inorganic methods, and it actually makes growing Tulasi much much easier in the long run.
